Healthcare Providers

Healthcare providers play a vital role in WIC. We appreciate referrals from healthcare providers and will work cooperatively with you to meet the needs of each individual referred to the UH WIC program.

On July 1, 2026 health insurance companies, including MO HealthNet, will assume the primary payer role for special formulas for infant and child WIC participants.

Please refer to the Health Care Provider Letter below for details regarding the change.

Missouri WIC is the secondary payer and will provide WIC-approved special formula in accordance with WIC requirements and when one or more of the following apply. A participant:

• Does not have insurance.
• Is enrolled in MO HealthNet, private or military insurance, but their formula is not covered.
• Is waiting for a MO HealthNet application or formula request to be approved.

You will continue to complete the required Medical Documentation (WIC-27) for these participants. Below is a link, no other forms of documentation can be accepted.
